The San Diego Museum of Man will reimagine and update its existing "Race: Are We So Different" exhibit with $460,013 in funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services' (IMLS) Museums for America (MFA) program. Under the two-year project grant award beginning September 2021, the Museum will comprehensively redesign the exhibit content and develop new interactive elements with community input. The updated exhibit will expand on themes of biology, social history and personal identity as they relate to systemic racism. Additionally, the Museum will implement complementary educational programming and serve as a framework for community-focused activities, tours, workshops and public programs. The project aims to strengthen the Museum's culture of community collaboration through a co-curated exhibit plan. The MFA program supports high-priority activities advancing museums' strategic goals and serving the public.
