About this award
The Trumbull County Historical Society received a $152,275 project grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the Museums for America program (CFDA 45.301), effective October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2027. The award supports the development of an interactive online map documenting over 30,000 individuals buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Warren, Ohio. This digital resource will integrate archival collections from the Trumbull County Historical Society, interment records from the Oakwood Cemetery Association, 7,500 naturalization records, and private family collections to enhance accessibility for families, researchers, and descendants.
In partnership with Youngstown State University, the Oakwood Cemetery Association, and the Trumbull County Archives & Records Center, the project addresses a documented need for tools to understand local immigration and migration patterns within this post-industrial Rust Belt community. The initiative will provide academic historians and community members with resources to analyze immigration trends and shed light on the demographic history of the region, while simultaneously improving digital access to historical records and archival materials critical to genealogical and historical research.
Description

This project will allow access to trumbull county historical society archival collections, oakwood cemetery interment records, 7,500 naturalization records, and private family collections to increase accessibility for families, relatives, and researchers and create a tool for researchers to better understand immigration and migration to this post-industrial, rust-belt community.
