Description
Residents in 185 rural, predominantly indigenous, communities near the EL jilguero reserve in LA PAZ, honduras, face real threats to their livelihoods, and thus their ability to stay in their communities, from reduced water availability, decreased soil fertility and unpredictable weather patterns. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to strengthen governance and natural resource management. Our grantee partner, asociación para EL manejo integrado DE LAS cuencas DE LA PAZ y comayagua (asomaincupaco), trains community-based organizations to manage and protect the watersheds of EL jilguero reserve in coordination with local authorities and civil society groups. Asomaincupaco's activities promote alternatives to irregular migration by encouraging greater participation in local decision-making and environmental management that can sustain livelihoods. This grant is part of our support for greater prosperity, security, and democratic governance in northern triangle communities, consistent with the U.S. Strategy for engagement in central america.
