Description
Often the skills most relevant for combat casualty care are perishable. Military treatment facilities (MTFS), while capable, do not provide the volume and complexity of trauma needed to maintain the combat-relevant trauma skills of military medical personnel. To this end military civilian partnerships (MCPS) have been established to ensure a combat-ready medical force. Oregon health & science university (OHSU) has supported the MCP mission through the army military civilian trauma training team (AMCT3) program since 2018. Seven army medical officers have already been fully-integrated into trauma-focused practice at OHSU through the AMCT3 program. This grant will reinforce OHSU's existing commitment to MCPS. To ensure the continued success or the OHSU MCP; mission zero grant funds will be used to (1) reduce on-boarding time, (2) remove barriers to participation, (3) enable professional development, and (4) ensure and document clinical readiness. With grant-supported MCP-specific administrative support the time needed for licensing and credentialing will be reduced. Costs not typically found in MTFS such as high-cost parking, commute and the challenging urban housing market are barriers to participation that will be reduced through direct defrayment and administrative assistance. Military promotion is merit-based and ensuring professional development with formal courses, academic appointment and performance/quality improvement programs MCP personnel will remain competitive with their military peers. Finally, this grant will support data collection, analysis and reporting necessary to document MCP effectiveness. Together these efforts will make permanent the MCP architecture at OHSU and provide a durable platform capable of meeting the critical sustainment needs of the department of defense into the foreseeable future.
