This $600,000 Project Grant awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Community Health Centers program (CFDA 93.224) will enable El Centro De Corazon, a non-profit community health center in Houston, Texas, to expand their behavioral health services. The funding will be used to: 1) Increase routine behavioral health screenings and brief interventions across all El Centro sites using licensed bilingual/bicultural behavioral health specialists, 2) Expand professional counseling services by adding a bilingual/bicultural therapist, 3) Expand clinical case management for patients with co-occurring disorders, and 4) Increase access to substance use disorder treatment including medication-assisted treatment. The health center aims to serve an additional 300 unduplicated patients and provide 1,200 annual encounters for mental health, substance use, and medication-assisted treatment services by the end of the first project year. The behavioral health expansion will be operational within 120 days of the grant award.
