The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), under the Community Health Centers Program (CFDA 93.224), awarded a $600,000 Project Grant to Apicha Community Health Center (Apicha) to expand behavioral health services at their Jackson Heights, Queens, New York satellite site.
Through this funding, Apicha will hire a 1.0 FTE psychiatric nurse practitioner to provide substance use disorder services, medication management, and treatment for patients with severe mental illness. Additionally, Apicha will hire a 1.0 FTE licensed clinical social worker for counseling services targeting the low-income, uninsured population, as well as 2.0 FTE behavioral health case managers to connect patients to appropriate mental health and substance use disorder services. This project aims to increase access to culturally competent behavioral health care and limit hospitalization for the diverse, underserved population served by Apicha's Jackson Heights site, where nearly half of patients are uninsured.
