The Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration awarded $650,000 to Rural Health Access Corporation, doing business as Coalfield Health Center, on August 1, 2026, under the Health Center Program (CFDA 93.224).
Coalfield Health Center delivers primary medical care, diagnostic laboratory services, screenings, family planning, immunizations, well child services, gynecological care, mental health services, substance use services, and enabling services including case management, eligibility assistance, health education, and transportation to underserved and low-income patients in southwest West Virginia. The center serves as a Federally Qualified Health Center look-alike, providing services to all area residents regardless of income, insurance status, or residency. The award supports expansion to serve an additional 5,000 new patients in 2026 across multiple service delivery sites in Chapmanville, Logan County, including a new mobile unit parking area and four fixed locations at 384, 386, and 400 Airport Road and 594 Main Street.
The performance period runs from August 1, 2026, through July 31, 2027. Coalfield Health Center, which began operations in July 2009, collaborates with the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and Marshall University's Center for Rural Health to provide rural health rotations for medical students and works with local community organizations to address patient needs.
