SAMHSA awarded the Missouri Department of Mental Health $1.08 million on September 30, 2026, under the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment Projects of Regional and National Significance program (CFDA 93.490) to expand access to recovery housing, integrated evidence-based substance use disorder and maternal health services, and family supports for pregnant and postpartum women in Missouri. The recipient will operate the State Pilot Program for Treatment for Pregnant and Postpartum Women (PPW-PLT) in partnership with two behavioral health providers certified by the Missouri DMH as Women and Children's Comprehensive Substance Treatment and Rehabilitation programs: Compass Health Network and Family Self Help Center Inc. The pilot targets adult women who are pregnant or up to twelve months postpartum, diagnosed with substance use disorder and/or co-occurring mental health conditions, and experiencing social and environmental stressors. Service delivery focuses on rural counties classified as health professional shortage areas: Jasper, McDonald, and Newton counties (Family Self Help Center's service area) and Johnson and Henry counties (Compass Health Network's service area). These counties comprise the second-highest region for pregnancy-related deaths in Missouri; from 2018 through 2022, the region recorded a pregnancy-related mortality rate of 35.75 per 100,000 live births. The pilot aims to reach 250 women in year one, 275 in year two, and 300 in year three, for a three-year total of 825 women. The award runs through September 29, 2029, with place of performance in Jefferson City, Missouri.
