The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration awarded $545,000 to St. John's Community Health on September 30, 2026, under the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment Projects of Regional and National Significance program (CFDA 93.490) to implement the Compton Youth and Family Treatment and Recovery Project (Compton YFTREE). St. John's Community Health will deliver comprehensive, family-centered, trauma-informed, evidence-based substance use disorder and co-occurring disorder treatment and recovery support for children ages 11 and under, adolescents ages 12–17, young adults ages 18–25, their families and primary caregivers, and pregnant and parenting women in Compton and surrounding South Los Angeles communities. Services include screening and developmentally appropriate early identification, comprehensive assessment and personalized treatment planning, integrated outpatient treatment using screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment, motivational interviewing, A-CRA, CBT, and ASK-COUNSEL-TREAT, family services, case management and wraparound support, peer recovery support, and access to medications for alcohol and opioid use disorder. The project will serve 50 unduplicated participants in year one and 100 annually in years two through five, for a total of 450 participants over the five-year period. The population will be approximately 5% children ages 11 and under, 25% adolescents ages 12–17, and 70% young adults ages 18–25. Services will be delivered through St. John's integrated network of primary care clinics, school-based health centers, and community-based services, with Dominguez High School Health Center and other established sites serving as entry points and the Community Wellness Center serving as the central outpatient treatment hub. Period of performance runs through September 29, 2031. Place of performance is El Rancho Dominguez, California.
