The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration awarded $799,983 to Seattle Indian Health Board on September 30, 2026, under the Center for Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance program (CFDA 93.532) to implement a five-year Zero Suicide Initiative strengthening agency-wide suicide prevention for adults in King County, Washington, with focus on American Indian and Alaska Native adults, veterans, individuals with low incomes, and others facing barriers to care. The project implements all seven elements of the Zero Suicide Framework, including establishment of an oversight council, expansion of workforce training, standardization of suicide screening and brief intervention protocols, strengthening of care transitions, and improved access to evidence-based suicide treatment. Beginning in year two, at least 1,500 adults will be screened annually, with all individuals screening positive receiving brief intervention and follow-up planning. Expected outcomes include improved suicide risk identification, enhanced workforce capacity, stronger continuity of care, and reduced suicidal ideation, attempts, and deaths. The period of performance runs through September 29, 2031. Work is performed in Seattle, Washington.
