Mountain Comprehensive Care Center will strengthen suicide prevention for adults with a focus on veterans and older adults through universal suicide screening using the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale, evidence-based treatments including cognitive behavioral therapy for suicide prevention, dialectical behavior therapy, collaborative assessment and management of suicidality (CAMS), and motivational interviewing. The project will expand workforce capacity through Zero Suicide training, enhance safety planning, coordinate peer support and housing, and establish rapid follow-up protocols guided by a Zero Suicide Oversight Council and continuous quality improvement processes. The initiative targets screening of 5,000 adults and provision of evidence-based treatment to 1,000 individuals, with aims to improve continuity of care, reduce suicidal ideation and behaviors, and strengthen access to suicide prevention services across rural Appalachia. Performance occurs in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, with a period of performance from September 30, 2026, through September 29, 2031. Mountain Comprehensive Care Center is a CARF-accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 1963 that serves as the primary behavioral health and comprehensive health services provider across the Big Sandy region and eastern Kentucky, delivering services annually to over 40,000 individuals.
