This federal Project Grant award of $400,000 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) under the Congressional Directives program (CFDA 93.493) will fund Libera Inc.'s "LIBERA MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT PROGRAMS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH" initiative. The project will provide evidence-based mental health support groups, suicide prevention training, and take-home mental health resource boxes to 300 unduplicated middle school youth, primarily young women and non-binary individuals, in five West Virginia counties. Key objectives include hiring two new mental health staff, training them and volunteers on the Libera model curriculum, delivering 10-week support groups, and providing 300 youth with mental health resource boxes containing coping tools, crisis lines, and other support materials. The project aims to decrease symptoms of depression and anxiety while increasing life satisfaction among participating youth.
