The Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan, Inc. (ITCMI) received a $500,000 Project Grant award under the Demonstration Projects for Indian Health program (CFDA 93.933) from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Indian Health Service. The 5-year grant titled "Anishnaabek Community Opioid Intervention Prevention Program (ACOIPP)" aims to address the opioid crisis in Michigan's tribal communities by: 1) providing community education and awareness on prevention, treatment, and recovery activities; 2) increasing use of culturally-appropriate and evidence-based interventions, including medication-assisted treatment; 3) supporting tribal and urban Indian communities in delivering opioid-related prevention, treatment, and recovery services; and 4) expanding harm reduction initiatives. ITCMI, a consortium of 12 federally-recognized Michigan tribes, will collaborate with tribal communities and the Urban American Indian and Health & Family Services Center to implement these grant activities across 55 counties in the state.
