The American Musicological Society, Inc. (AMS) was awarded a $334,140 project grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Promotion of the Humanities Public Programs (CFDA 45.164) to support a public program series called "Many Musics of America." This series will explore the role of music in the history and evolution of the United States and its diverse peoples through 20 engaging public events nationwide and online from November 2023 to October 2025. The grant will enable the AMS to offer educational programs that convey humanistic knowledge about a variety of American musical traditions, with a focus on underserved communities including Native Americans, African-Americans, and groups from Appalachia. Additionally, the AMS received a $254,000 NEH Promotion of the Humanities Research grant to support the publication of the Music of the United States of America scholarly music editions series, which aims to make exemplary works of artistic and historical significance available worldwide.
