Description

Improved lidar-based landslide inventory mapping of idahoproject period: july 1, 2025 june 30, 2026THE idaho geological survey proposes to improve idahos landslide inventory database through newmapping and comprehensive revision of existing mapping. The proposed work will consist of desktopmapping with geographic information systems (GIS) software based on newly available high-resolutionlidar topographic basemaps. Experienced geologists will identify landslides and trace their boundaries withpolygons. Each polygon will be attributed with relevant parameters, including lithologic, soils, climate, andslope data. The goal of the program is to systematically map all landslides in the state, but this proposedproject focuses on the 13 southern-most counties, which have total or near-total lidar coverage. Theproposed extent of mapping includes the following counties:owyheegoodinglincolnjeromeminidokatwin fallscassiapowerbannockcaribouoneidafranklinbear lakethe resulting mapping will be published by the idaho geological survey as an update to its existinglandslide inventory database. The landslide inventory will be available to the public as a GIS geodatabaseand an interactive web map. Landslide inventories are valuable tools for planning, mitigation, and hazardand risk analysis. This work will benefit a variety of users: state, tribal, and county emergency managers county and municipal planning and zoning officials state transportation department rail companies national forests bureau of reclamation bureau of land management public utilities irrigation districts and geotechnical engineers and developers.no subrecipients are proposed for this project.
