Expected outcomes
As a result of education and outreach presentations or events, at least 1,425 area residents, including those with LEP, better understand fair housing laws and our services. • as a result of workshops conducted, at least 110 individuals who are housing providers or consumers have better understanding of fair housing laws, rights and practices. • contact with 20 local groups or organizations serving individuals who are a focus of project activities results in the participation by 3 of the 20 in assisting with the project. • through receiving training, staff of 3 local housing authorities better understand fair housing and how to fulfill their obligations associated with the receipt of federal funds. • high school students with an interest in human relations and rights gain awareness of fair housing laws and rights and the availability of our services. Young people who may be about to enter the housing market will be better prepared to identify and address housing discrimination. • attendees of special events learn about civil rights, issues of fair housing and our services. • as a result of multi-lingual literature distribution area residents, including those with limited english proficiency (LEP) better understand fair housing laws and our services. • social media users access current information about fair housing issues or our services and activities • E-mail list recipients are kept up to date about our activities or significant fair housing issues. • through conducting an online advertising campaign, users in our service area of social media and other online platforms gain access to current information about fair housing issues and have an opportunity to connect to our services and activities • as a result of allegations of housing discrimination received from those contacted through project activities investigative case files are opened, possibility resulting in enforcement referral(S). At least 4 housing discrimination allegations are addressed and at least 1 timely, meritorious and jurisdictional complaint is referred to HUD
Intended beneficiaries
The project's activities are projected to have direct contact with 1,655 individuals, with many others contacted or reached through indirect means. While expanding education and outreach generally, IT will have a focus on minority, immigrant or disabled individuals. This will enhance the effectiveness of our existing fair housing enforcement activities, which, although broad-based, largely focus on the same target population. The added activities will help ensure a greater understanding of fair housing laws and rights, the lack of which can result in the denial or loss of housing opportunities, particularly for this target population. For immigrants, particular attention will be given to those with limited english proficiency
