Description

As the agency reported it.

Tolstoy red and white [?tolstoy red and white? Will be the first comparative account of LEO tolstoy?s literary and philosophical afterlives in the soviet union and in the first wave of 20TH-century russian emigration. Through the lens of his contested legacy, ?tolstoy red and white? Examines the cultural clash between these rival societies in the wake of the 1917 revolution. A critic of the imperial regime, he was no less disparaging of revolutionaries, whom he condemned as ?parasites? Compelling peasants to ?evil, unchristian? Actions. Nevertheless, his ideas?whether adopted, altered, or fiercely rejected?helped mold the ideologies of both the soviets and the ?migr?s, as well as their competing visions of their homeland.]
