Description

The project involves working with landowners to conduct surveys on their property to look for known populations of one federally endangered plant species that is only found along the CT river and nowhere else on the planet called jesup's milk vetch. Also, scientists will search for new populations and monitor known populations of one federally threatened native plant (orchid) species called small whorled pogonia. With landowner permission, botanists and ecologists will return to the sites that have known populations. For both species, botanists and ecologists will look for the plants and count individual stems as well as the fruit (which bear the seeds of the plant). These activities will aid in the ensuring the long term viability of the species and the goal of delisting them from the endangered species list.
