About this award

The Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 4 awarded $340,111 to the Executive Office of the Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Division of Fish and Wildlife (operating as the Department of Planning & Natural Resources) on January 1, 2026, under the Clean Vessel Act program (CFDA 15.616).

The award funds education and outreach to recreational boaters and marina facilities regarding environmental pollution from sewage discharges from recreational vessels, and disseminates information about the locations of pump-out and dump stations throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands. The recipient will maintain existing pump-out sites and construct new pump-out sites when appropriate locations are identified. Work is performed in the U.S. Virgin Islands with a period of performance extending through December 31, 2027.

The Clean Vessel Act program provides funding to states and territories for construction, renovation, operation, and maintenance of sewage pumpout stations, waste reception facilities, and pumpout boats for recreational boaters. Program funding derives from revenues collected from excise taxes on motorboat fuel, certain electric motors and fishing equipment, and import duties on fishing tackle and yachts deposited into the Sport Fish Restoration Trust Fund. Facilities constructed, operated, or maintained with Clean Vessel Act funds must be accessible to the public for the duration of their useful life, and signage must be displayed and visible to boaters on the water.
