About this award

The U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service (DOI FWS) awarded $2.454 million on January 1, 2026, under the Sportfishing and Boating Safety Act program (CFDA 15.622) to construct transient recreational boating infrastructure on the Delaware River. The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, as the prime recipient, will deliver 14 new transient boat slips with associated structures designed to secure vessels and facilitate shore access. This project expands upon a successful 2017 initiative that added 25 transient sites and is intended to accommodate the high volume of boaters utilizing the Delaware River while improving accessibility for both tourists and the local community.

The Bristol Borough will serve as the subrecipient executing the project, with completion targeted for December 31, 2028. The new facilities will provide increased recreational opportunities for transient boaters using vessels 26 feet or greater in length and are anticipated to generate economic benefits for local residents through expanded tourism and recreational activity. The project strengthens inter-community connections along the riverway corridor and enhances the region's capacity to serve transient recreational boating demand at public-access facilities.
