Description
In partnership with the U.S. Fish and wildlife service the SAN diego audubon society (doing business as SAN diego bird alliance) will implement the sharing our shores south BAY program to connect youth from imperial beach to the rich natural resources of the SAN diego BAY national wildlife refuge. This program addresses two pressing issues 1. The need to ensure the biological integrity and health of the landscape are maintained for the benefit of present and future generations 2. The growing disconnection of children from nature. By engaging 3RD to 5TH grade students from south BAY union school district schools the initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding of coastal habitats develop outdoor based skills and cultivate a sense of stewardship for local wildlife. The project includes a blend of classroom environmental education and hands on experiences such as field trips to the bayside birding and walking trail where students observe shorebirds and actively participate in habitat restoration efforts. Objectives include 1. Delivering fifteen educational programs 2. Restoring native habitat to support local wildlife 3. Installing 30 student designed conservation signs to enhance public understanding of the ecological importance of the area.through these efforts SAN diego audubon aims to engage not only the students of our programs but the entire community through outreach and restoration events. By improving the landscape of south SAN diego BAY we will protect this resource for the benefit of the american people and can ensure that the next generation of SAN diegans will grow up with an appreciation and respect for our local nature spaces and outdoor recreation opportunities. Since its inception in 2017 this program has established strong community ties while promoting environmental conservation and education to inspire lasting connections to nature in south SAN diego BAY.
