Description
National fish and wildlife foundation U.S. Fish and wildlife service 2024 national fish passage program bipartisan infrastructure law: restoring river floodplain, and coastal connectivity and resiliency project abstract conasauga habitat connectivity for trispot darters project goal: improve aquatic organism passage in georgia s conasauga river basin to aid federally threatened trispot darter and blue shiner fish. Location: murray and whitfield counties (disadvantaged communities) the conasauga habitat connectivity for trispot darters project aims to improve aquatic organism passage in the conasauga river basin, georgia. By replacing two undersized and poorly designed culverts with aquatic organism passage structures, this project will reconnect fragmented stream habitat, increase gene flow in fish and mussel populations, and enhance local infrastructure resiliency. This will benefit the federally threatened trispot darter and blue shiner, as well as the local communities. This project will be implemented in murray and whitfield counties, both of which are considered disadvantaged communities. By improving road safety and accessibility during floods and reducing long-term road maintenance costs, this project will have a positive impact on these communities.
