The U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service awarded a $157,060 Project Grant under the Multistate Conservation Grant Program (CFDA 15.628) to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (NSSF) to examine participation trends and survey former/infrequent hunters. The goal is to understand why hunters often choose other recreational activities over hunting, and identify optimal messaging and tactics to improve hunter retention efforts. NSSF will leverage expertise from Southwick Associates to analyze license data, survey lapsed hunters, and develop visually appealing summary reports to be shared broadly with state agencies, hunting NGOs, and the R3 (Recruitment, Retention, Reactivation) Clearinghouse. This work aims to boost hunter retention rates and increase overall hunting participation across the country.
