THE SOUTHERN NEVADA WATER AUTHORITY WILL IMPROVE THE HABITAT QUALITY OF PREVIOUSLY ALTERED STREAMS AT THE WARM SPRINGS NATURAL AREA FOR THE ENDANGERED MOAPA DACE. STREAMS ALONG THE MUDDY RIVER AND ITS TRIBUTARIES HAVE HAD THEIR VEGETATION ALTERED DUE TO HUMAN ACTIVITY AND RESTORATION IS NECESSARY FOR THE RECOVERY OF THE MOAPA DACE. A MAJOR COMPONENT OF THIS EFFORT IS TO REMOVE NONNATIVE SPECIES WITHIN THE CHANNEL AND ALONG THE BANKS OF THE RIVER AND ITS TRIBUTARIES SINCE THE DACE PREFER FAST MOVING WATERS. SNWA WILL HIRE A CONTRACTOR TO CLEAR THIS VEGETATION TO PROMOTE HYDROLOGIC CONDITIONS PREFERRED BY MOAPA DACE.
