Description
The deep well delivers water to both the wildlife area servicing approximately 40 acres of permanent water known as ruth lake. Ruth lake is reservoir for both seasonal and semi permanent wetlands as well as a popular and heavily utilized warm water fishery. The well also provides water for approximately 400 acres of seasonal wetlands providing high quality moist soil habitat for migratory wintering waterfowl. The water produced by the well is also used on approximately 150 acres of summer water and semi permanent wetlands providing brood water and molting water for resident waterfowl and a wide variety of mammals and other wildlife. The project would drill a new well in proximity to the existing infrastructure and possibly go deeper than the current wells depth. Current depth is 300 FT and additional depth may be needed to meet salinity and water quality standards. The existing motor electrical meter and control panel could possibly be utilized if the new well is adjacent to the existing LBDW1. We estimate the cost of a new test hole new casing impellers and motor along with associated permits labor construction cost and an adjacent monitoring well to be approximately $500000. We estimate the well could yield 2000 acre feet (AF) per year.LBDW3 is located on the northeast corner of the LOS banos wildlife area next to salt slough near what is commonly referred to as the sand DAM. The deep well once delivered water the wildlife area servicing approximately 150 acres of permanent water known as buttonwillow lakes. Buttonwillow lakes are part of the sanctuary on the LOS banos wildlife area that provide loafing areas for migratory waterfowl during the fall and winter. The deep well will also provide water to approximately 300 acres of seasonal wetlands and 60 acres semi permanent wetlands. The water will also be used to irrigated cereal grain crops and manage uplands for nesting waterfowl upland and passerine bird species as well as mammals and other wildlife. Cereal grains provide fall and winter forge for a multitude of avian and terrestrial species as well. The 300 acres of seasonal wetlands provide high quality moist soil habitat for migratory wintering waterfowl. The water produced by the well will also be used on approximately 60 acres of semi permanent wetlands providing brood water and molting water for resident waterfowl and a wide variety of mammals and other wildlife.
