The Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of the Interior's Fish and Wildlife Service under the John H. Prescott Marine Mammal Rescue and Response Grant Program (CFDA 15.683) provides $210,301.44 to the Red Caribena De Varamientos, Inc. (RCV) and its Caribbean Stranding Network division to support the conservation and rehabilitation of endangered Antillean manatees in Puerto Rico. Specifically, the funding will enable RCV to acquire essential rescue and veterinary equipment, including a manatee rescue truck, rehabilitation tank lift motors, veterinary endoscopes, oxygen backpacks, and digital documentation tools. This equipment will enhance RCV's capabilities to rapidly assess, transport, treat, and monitor the medical conditions of injured or ill manatees that are stranded in Puerto Rico. The award period runs from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027.
