Description
CBI will work with an interagency fisher technical team (FTT) to update the southern sierra nevada fisher conservation assessment and strategy (ssnfcaand S VL.0 spencer ET AL. 2015B, 2016) with new models of fisher habitat, forest resilience, and management priority areas using forest structure data from the california forest observatory (CFO). The ssnfcaand S VL.0 was adopted in 2016 by california department of fish and wildlife (CDFW), united states fish and wildlife service (USFWS), U.S. Forest service (USFS), and national park service (NPS) for use in activities that might affect fishers. IT was to be updated every 4 6 years and was completed just as historical drought and megafires were substantially altering fisher habitat conditions. The strategy established fisher habitat and population metrics for tracking progress on conservation goals, but lacked quantifiable metrics for fisher habitat resilience and a systematic way to track changes in habitat as forests change with climate, fire and other disturbances. Version 2.0 of the strategy will incorporate metrics of fisher habitat resilience and associated decision support tools for forest managers. These new resilience and decision support tools will be linked to the revised strategy to guide fisher habitat management actions and facilitate efficient tracking of quantitative metrics for fisher recovery goals. Habitat and population resilience goals enabled by dynamic modeling will be included.
