About this award

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) awarded a $191,619 project grant under the Promotion of the Humanities Professional Development program (CFDA 45.163) to the American Historical Association (AHA). The grant will fund a three-week, fully virtual institute in June-July 2025 for 30 K-12 educators on the theme of "Africa in World History." The institute aims to enhance the content knowledge of participating teachers, allowing them to expand beyond the limited engagement with African perspectives in many world history textbooks and state standards. Teacher-participants will collaborate with university faculty to assemble a free digital source collection hosted on the AHA's website as a permanent resource for world history teachers. Additionally, the participants will develop lesson plans and assignments built around the new sourcebook, focusing on integrating African perspectives to align with the needs of students in busy classrooms.
