Description

This EDA economic adjustment assistance to coal communities award will help the town of cambridge city upgrade its water storage capacity to provide improved service to the regionally-significant gateway industrial park. Ongoing contraction at the whitewater valley coal-fired generating station cost the region significant numbers of jobs. Local leaders recognize the need for increased economic diversification and opportunities for displaced former coal plant employees. Upgraded services at the park are likely to prompt additional growth for existing park tenants and attract new employers to the region to help displaced workers access new opportunities. The EDA-funded improvements include a new 1M gallon elevated water storage tank and 1,100 linear feet of 12-inch water main extension to serve the park. The project is expected to create 100 new jobs and generate $10M in new private investment.
