The East Michigan Council of Governments (EMCOG) was awarded $420,000 through the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration's (EDA) Economic Development Support for Planning Organizations program to develop and implement a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for its 15-county region. The three-year project grant running from April 2022 through March 2025 will support EMCOG's creation of a regional economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the local economy in Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Huron, Iosco, Isabella, Midland, Ogemaw, Roscommon, Saginaw, Sanilac, Tuscola counties and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe territory. As part of the EDA Planning program's mission to stimulate and guide community and regional economic development efforts through planning, EMCOG will leverage this funding to engage public and private stakeholders across its multi-county region in the CEDS planning process.
