The University of Central Florida Board of Trustees was awarded a $1,970,774 Project Grant from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) Program (CFDA 81.123) on August 30, 2024. The objectives of this 5-year project are to: 1) Conduct STEM outreach programs on nuclear security careers targeting K-16 and graduate students; 2) Recruit promising STEM students into sponsored internships within the QuickStart program; 3) Facilitate experiential learning and research opportunities for students under the supervision of consortium faculty and in coordination with Pantex, Y-12, and ORNL personnel; 4) Deliver high-quality research products for these national laboratories; and 5) Identify and support placement of top-tier students into formal internships at the Pantex and Y-12 facilities. This project aims to build a sustainable pipeline of diverse STEM talent in nuclear security-related disciplines through partnerships between minority-serving institutions and the DOE/NNSA's nuclear security enterprise.
