About this award
The Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency awarded GTI Energy $499,900 on May 13, 2026, under the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) IGNIITE 2025 program (CFDA 81.135) to develop a robust carbon-doped titanium oxide membrane with tunable nanopores for in situ catalyst retention and organic solvent recovery in Suzuki reaction applications.
The project runs through May 12, 2028, with place of performance in Des Plaines, Illinois. The IGNIITE 2025 program supports early-career innovators developing transformational, high-impact energy technologies with the potential to create new classes or trajectories for energy applications. Awardees participate in dedicated ARPA-E events, meetings, and mentorship activities alongside their research efforts. The award may fund exploratory research or proof-of-concept work for emerging technologies not currently supported by the agency.
GTI Energy, a nonprofit research organization headquartered in Des Plaines, specializes in low-carbon and energy-efficiency technologies including CO2 utilization and storage, hydrogen energy systems, carbon capture, and industrial decarbonization. This award supports the organization's materials science and separation technology capabilities in organic solvent recovery processes.
Description
Program overview the inspiring generations of new innovators to impact technologies in energy (igniite) 2025 program is designed to support a new cohort of early-career innovators to develop the most disruptive and unconventional ideas into transformative new technologies across the full spectrum of energy applications. This announcement is purposefully broad in technical scope, but eligibility is limited to early-career researchers as defined in section II.a. In addition to research efforts, awardees will engage with arpa-e and fellow awardees through dedicated igniite events, meetings, and mentorship activities. Submissions to this solicitation must propose transformational r & d that has the potential for high impact. If successful, a project could create a new class or new trajectory for an energy technology, with the potential to substantially contribute to arpa-e's statutory goals (see section i.a). Awards under this program may take the form of exploratory research that provides the agency with information useful for the subsequent development of focused technology programs. Alternatively, awards may support proof-of-concept research for a particular new technology in an area not currently supported by the agency.
