Description

Community project funding/congressionally directed spending - construction - the project, located at 648 chetco avenue, brookings, oregon will facilitate a renovation of an already existing medical facility to expand access to primary care and other medical services provided through bandon community health center, DBA. Coast community health center under the direction of project director and chief executive officer, linda maxon. Coast community health center is an established federally qualified health center which has existed along the south coast serving the medically underserved since 2010. The catchment areas is recognized as a health provider shortage area and medically underserved area, involving the region of southern coos & curry counties. Renovation of this prior surgery which was an approved CMS facility will create 10 exam and procedure rooms, vaccines administration rooms, nurse consulting rooms, 4 integrated behavioral health patient encounter rooms, a large in-patient 340B/retail pharmacy which will have include an exterior drive up window, medical team POD area, group therapy room, and support offices for wrap around services provided by the population health team. The region has been underserved with not active federally qualified health center full-service site established in this geographic area that supports approximately 10,200 constituents. Due to coast's deep commitment to respond to covid during the past 2-1/2 years, the center has more than doubled the number of patients established and receiving care at the existing two facilities. Constituents in this region travel 45 minutes north to receive services at the north curry facility, located in port orford, oregon. The congressionally directed construction funding will allow the health center to immediately impact expanded services to s. Curry county through the partnership with a retired physician who offered this facility for the center's use. The center's compassionate tenured providers work with a large population of medi care patients and aging in place, end of life care, while our other providers have experience with pediatric and school-based healthcare for the young vulnerable community members. The center's opportunity for expansion will support comprehensive services for any and all in the south county and bridge the current deficit of primary care services that exist in the region. The center will also support the existing relationship with the region's coordinated care organizations, (all care health and advanced health) who manage the lives of medicaid patients. The economic investment of these funds and the associated project will bring a strong economic investment to the region to support contracts, employment opportunities, work source development, collaboration with local community colleges, among other economic opportunities. Equally the investment in primary care, acute and walk-in healthcare services through the health center development will support equitable healthcare services to the migrant farmworker population, and those who are financially vulnerable, the homeless and those challenged by mental health and behavioral health, while lifting the burden experienced by the hospital emergency room departments for utilization of ER services for primary, preventative and acute care inappropriately.
