THE FUELING FACILITY WILL CONSIST OF CNG EQUIPMENT AND STATIONS WITH BOTH FAST AND SLOW FILL FUELING DISPENSERS.ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: FUNDS WILL BE USED TO COVER ALL ELIGIBLE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION/INSTALLATION OF CNG FUELING FACILITY INCLUDING CNG EQUIPMENT FUELING DISPENSERS INSTALLATION OF GAS PIPES FUEL CONNECTION AND RELATED AUXILIARY COMPONENTS. INTENDED BENEFICIARIES: THIS FUELING FACILITY WILL ALLOW THE CITY TO REFUEL THESE VEHICLES WITHOUT COMPETING WITH OTHER USERS SO THAT NORMAL OPERATING ACTIVITIES ARE NOT INTERRUPTED. THE CNG FUELING FACILITY WILL ALSO ENSURE THAT THE CITY TRANSIT VEHICLES HAVE DEDICATED ACCESS TO CNG FUEL IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.SUBRECIPIENT ACTIVITIES: NONESAFETY REQUIREMENT (.75%):THE USE OF CNG IS SAFER TO TRANSIT OPERATORS USERS AND COMMUNITIES THAN OTHER FUELS SUCH AS GASOLINE OR PROPANE DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE NATURAL GAS AND STANDARD REQUIREMENTS OF THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE FUELING SYSTEM. NATURAL GAS IS A NON-TOXIC GAS THAT IS LIGHTER THAN AIR WHICH WILL RISE AND DISSIPATE IN CASE OF SPILLAGE UNLIKE GASOLINE AND PROPANE THAT TEND TO PUDDLE OR SINK TO THE GROUND. NATURAL GAS ALSO HAS A HIGHER IGNITION TEMPERATURE. THIS MEANS THAT IT IS MUCH HARDER TO IGNITE. THE STORAGE SYSTEMS USED FOR COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS ARE INFINITELY STRONGER THAT THE GASOLINE TANKS FOUND ON CARS AND TRUCKS TODAY. THEREFORE CNG FUEL AND ITS INFRASTRUCTURE ARE SAFER THAN OTHER FUELS.
