The Minnesota Humanities Center received a $196,556 Project Grant award from the National Endowment for the Humanities under the Promotion of the Humanities Teaching and Learning Resources and Curriculum Development program.
Through this funding, the Center will organize a series of public forums from June 2023 to May 2025 to examine the experiences of underrepresented military service members. Specifically, the Complicated Service Discussion Series will bring together veterans and community members to discuss the dynamics, reasoning and strength behind serving for those who identified as female, Black, Native American, LGBTQ or immigrants.
The Center will leverage its expertise developing educational resources and convening dialogue to strengthen understanding of military service from marginalized perspectives. As a nonprofit organization and event center located in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the Humanities Center has received prior NEH support for similar public humanities programming and curriculum initiatives engaging Minnesotans.
