The University of Portland was awarded a $149,312 Project Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Promotion of the Humanities Teaching and Learning Resources and Curriculum Development program (CFDA 45.162). The award, with a performance period from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2027, will support two interdependent initiatives: 1) an Engaged Humanities Pathway linked to the university's core curriculum, and 2) an Engaged Humanities Hub to provide ongoing support for the pathway and related programming. The project will assemble interdisciplinary working groups to develop engaged humanities core courses open to all students, create a pathway for students to follow through engaged humanities framing courses, core exploration courses, and high-impact experiences, and formalize an Engaged Humanities Hub to sustain the curriculum and programming. This project aims to expand the role of the humanities in undergraduate education at the University of Portland and connect student learning to their professional and personal futures.
