Description
The resighini rancheria is requesting 57,187 to complete a feasibility study for a general store and fueling station marketplace 101 to provide fresh food and fuel to the community and tourists traveling highway 101 through klamath, california the project was selected by the tribal council as an economic development endeavor indicated in the tribes 2015 2017 community needs assessment survey see attachment 5 and identified as a mid range economic development project in planning for the future, comprehensive community and land use development plan, september 2017, see attachment 6 mid range economic development the proposed one year project will examine and determine the feasibility of developing a general grocery store and fuel station on the rancheria located at the south end of klamath IT is hoped to also serve as a travel center with an informational kiosk to include history, local attractions, brochures, and maps this economic endeavor would complement the tribes cherere campground and RV park of 70 sites as well as benefit low income residents in this isolated food insecure region the tribe proposes to contract a consulting firm to examine the projects viability and examine technical elements of market demographics, regional competition, site analysis, viability, financial feasibility, economic benefits, investment, and provide pro forma financials the feasibility study is needed to determine the appropriate business model, size, location, volume of goods, and investment necessary to be successful the study will address significant economic factors, labor market, employment, and other barriers present in this small low income community such as location, flood concerns, and the current economy in the absence of a strong local food supply coupled with rising gasoline costs we estimate there is a reasonable opportunity to develop a viable business and fill a need in this community the first step in this economic venture is for the completion of a feasibility study to assist the tribe in making informed decisions that will pave the way to ensure business success without this funding and technical assistance, the tribe would not be able to progress forward with this economic development opportunity
