Description

The PIT river tribe recently completed a preliminary feasibility study which showed that sufficient excess vegetative matter is available from regional forests within its ancestral lands boundary for a long term supply of feedstock to biomass energy generators several such generation facilities are currently in planning stages in the tribes area the study identified the major operational and financial needs for a tribal for profit business to harvest this biomass for sale to energy generation facilities such a business would create jobs for tribal members and generate significant revenue for the tribe to defray the approximately 3M annual energy cost to its members, enterprises, departments, and administration buildings moreover, the tribe is located in northeastern california and suffers from a high risk of wildfires the biomass harvest business would help reduce vegetative fuel for these fires and significantly lessen the damage caused by such fires the tribe requests BIA nabdi grant funds to conduct a detailed technical and financial feasibility study to support a decision on forming this business
