DESCRIPTION:THE AGREEMENT PROVIDES CONDUCT AMBIENT AIR MONITORING OF POLLUTANTS OF GREATEST CONCERN IN COMMUNITIES WITH ENVIRONMENTAL AND HEALTH OUTCOME DISPARITIES STEMMING FROM POLLUTION AND THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT PROVIDES FULL FEDERAL FUNDING IN THE AMOUNT OF $100,000. PREAWARD COSTS ARE APPROVED BACK TO JULY 1, 2023. ACTIVITIES:THE ACTIVITIES WILL BE USED TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY AND LOCAL EFFORTS TO MONITOR THEIR OWN AIR QUALITY AND TO PROMOTE AIR QUALITY MONITORING PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN COMMUNITIES AND TRIBAL, STATE, AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS THAT: LEVERAGE EXISTING AIR QUALITY EXPERTISE, EXPAND USE OF COMMUNITY MONITORING GROUPS AND OTHER APPROACHES THAT GIVE THE COMMUNITY A VOICE IN THE MONITORING OF THE AIR QUALITY, AND BUILD A FOUNDATION OF TRUSTING RELATIONSHIPS AND ENHANCED UNDERSTANDING FROM WHICH SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS TO COMMUNITY AIR POLLUTION PROBLEMS CAN BE FOUND. SPECIFICALLY, THE RECIPIENT WILL DEVELOP AN AIR MONITORING PLAN WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO MONITOR LOCAL AIR QUALITY TRENDS FOR PARTICULATE MATTER 2.5 AND ULTRA-FINE PARTICULATE MATTER USING A NETWORK OF 20 PURPLE AIR SENSORS IN THE FOUR DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES IN THE ALHAMBRA AND MONTEREY PARK STUDY AREA OF CALIFORNIA. THIS WILL BE USED TO IDENTIFY DISPROPORTIONATE AIR POLLUTION IMPACTS AND SOURCES OF PARTICULATE POLLUTION. ADDITIONALLY, THE RECIPIENT WILL BE ENGAGING COMMUNITY MEMBERS THROUGH WORKSHOPS AND IN PERSON EVENTS TO IMPROVE THEIR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT LOCAL AIR QUALITY AND TO ENCOURAGE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:THE ANTICIPATED DELIVERABLES INCLUDE, INCLUDE DEVELOPING A AIR MONITORING PLAN FOR 20 PURPLE AIR SENSORS TO IDENTIFY AIR POLLUTANT ISSUES AND AIR MONITORING NEEDS IN THE COMMUNITY AND COLLABORATING WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS. THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES INCLUDE, INCREASE AWARENESS OF LOCAL AIR POLLUTION AND COMPARE COMMUNITY LEVEL MONITORING TO STATE OPERATED MONITORS NEARBY. THE RECIPIENT WILL ESTABLISH TRUST WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND INCREASE THE NUMBER OF RESIDENTS INVOLVED WITH THE PROPOSED CAMPAIGN. THE INTENDED BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE, DIRECT BENEFICIARIES OF THESE ACTIVITIES ARE COMMUNITY RESIDENTS WHO LIVE IN THE AREA AND PARTICIPATE IN THE WORKSHOPS/MONITORING.
