Description

The purpose of the bayview food sovereignty and environmental justice project is to form collaborative partnerships, educate the community, and address air quality and food insecurity issues through the development of a sustainable community food system to grow and distribute locally grown food in bayview hunters point, one of SAN francisco's most underserved neighborhood with the most covid-19 infections and deaths. Activities:activities include: developing partnerships between neighborhood farmers and markets to implement a sustainable food distribution supply chain; training community members to grow and maintain their own sustainable gardens; educating and empowering community members to understand environmental and public health issues, including education on air pollution, activities to improve air quality, and environmental stewardship. Outcomes:expected outcomes include: increased education and awareness of environmental health issues, including air quality and covid protocols; improved community participation in efforts to address environmental issues, such as air quality and sustainable food systems; building consensus and setting community priorities; improving air quality and community health. Direct beneficiaries include african-americans and chinese immigrants who reside in bayview hunters point, including youth, the elderly, and linguistically isolated populations.
