MEDICAL NUTRITION THERAPY AND DIABETES SELF-MANAGEMENT EDUCATION FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES - KAMIN CONSULTING DBA YUMLISH IS A FOR-PROFIT, WOMAN- AND MINORITY-OWNED ORGANIZATION FOCUSED ON SERVING UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS' UNMET CHRONIC DISEASE MANAGEMENT NEEDS THROUGH TAILORED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND INDIVIDUALIZED MEDICAL NUTRITION THERAPY. YUMLISH IS CURRENTLY SERVING THE NEEDS OF PEOPLE WITH DIABETES AND OF LATINO ORIGIN IN DALLAS, TEXAS. THROUGH THIS PROPOSAL, YUMLISH SEEKS TO EXPAND ITS SERVICE OFFERINGS TO PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES (YUMABLE). THIS PHASE II PROJECT BUILDS UPON PREVIOUS RESEARCH TO COMPLETE THE DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF YUMABLE, A MEDICAL NUTRITION THERAPY AND DIABETES SELF-MANAGEMENT EDUCATION COMMERCIAL PROGRAM FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA AT BIRMINGHAM AND LAKESHORE FOUNDATION, YUMABLE WILL BE ACCESSIBLE AND INCLUSIVE. THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO CREATE A REIMBURSABLE AND EFFECTIVE TYPE 2 DIABETES MANAGEMENT SOLUTION TO MEET THE NEEDS OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. THE OBJECTIVES: (1) COMPLETION OF A FULLY FUNCTIONAL TELEHEALTH PLATFORM; (2) DEVELOPMENT OF CONTENT, SCRIPTS, INFOGRAPHICS, AND VIDEOS NEEDED FOR FULL ACCESSIBILITY AND INCLUSION; AND (3) CONDUCTING A NATIONWIDE THREE-ARM RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL TO ESTABLISH EFFECTIVENESS OF OUR PROGRAM, CONTENT, AND TECHNOLOGY. OUTCOMES OF THIS PROJECT INCLUDE THE COMPLETION AND ESTABLISHED EFFECTIVENESS OF THE YUMABLE, A PROGRAM AND TECHNOLOGY THAT IS USABLE AND WELL-LIKED BY PEOPLE WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITIES.
