Description
The goal of this project is to design a simple, single-use test strip made of an enzymatic biosensor that can be used by general public to detect lead in drinking water at the faucets.activities:the objectives include 1) designing, building and testing simple enzymatic biosensors to detect lead contamination in drinking water, 2) investigating a range of economic and environmental inputs to ensure the device's long-term viability and widespread distribution, and 3) disseminating findings at regional and national levels.subrecipient:no subawards are included in this assistance agreement.outcomes:deliverables will include annual and final reports. Additionally, deliverables include a simple and affordable testing strip made of enzymatic biosensor to detect lead (and potentially other contaminants) in drinking water at household faucets. The expected outcomes include 1) identify, produce and purify a family of pbgs variants, 2) characterize the inhibition by lead, activity and stability of the pbgs mutants, 3) develop colorimetric chemistry for signal transduction, 4) develop and test a simple prototype device and 5) characterize the impact of common chemical contaminants found in drinking water on the prototype sensor response. Direct beneficiaries of this assistance agreement include residents of the communities in ohio and the general public.
