DESCRIPTION:THIS AGREEMENT PROVIDES FUNDING FROM THE INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT AND JOBS ACT (IIJA). EPA'S CONSUMER RECYCLING EDUCATION AND OUTREACH (REO) GRANT PROGRAM WILL FUND A RANGE OF PROJECTS THAT WILL INCREASE WASTE PREVENTION ACTIVITIES, INCREASE THE COLLECTION OF RECYCLABLE MATERIALS AND PROGRAM PARTICIPATION RATES, AND DECREASE CONTAMINATION OF THE RECYCLING STREAM, FUND PROJECTS THAT FOCUS ON COMMONLY RECYCLED MATERIALS SUCH AS MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE (E.G., PLASTICS, ALUMINUM, PAPER, GLASS, ETC.), INCLUDING FOOD WASTE AND ORGANICS, AND/OR FUND PROJECTS AND PROVIDE TOOLS AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE THAT WILL LEAD TO LONG-TERM, SUSTAINED CHANGE, BENEFITS, AND SUPPORT BEYOND THE LIFE OF THE GRANT. THE PURPOSE OF THIS AWARD IS TO ENHANCE CIUDAD SWCD'S EFFORTS TO MEET THE REO GRANTS ELEMENTS. OVER THE THREE YEARS, CIUDAD WILL USE A PHASED APPROACH TO TEACH EDUCATORS, STUDENTS, AND THEIR FAMILIES TO UNDERSTAND THE VALUE OF FOOD AND COMPOSTING; TO HELP STUDENTS DEVELOP MATERIALS TO TEACH OTHER STUDENTS AND ADULTS TO VALUE FOOD AND COMPOSTING. ACTIVITIES:CIUDAD WILL PERFORM THE FOLLOWING FOUR ACTIVITIES: (1) EDUCATE TEACHERS; (2) DEVELOP, IMPLEMENT, AND DISTRIBUTE CURRICULUM; (3) DOCUMENT AND ELEVATE STUDENT VOICES, SUCCESSES, AND IMPACT; AND (4) LEVERAGE SUCCESSES IN SISTER COMMUNITIES. THIS PROJECT ALIGNS WITH THE ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS (APS) MISSION AND BUILDS ON THEIR WORK TO INTEGRATE GARDENS AND LOCAL AGRICULTURE INTO THEIR CAMPUSES AND CURRICULUM. SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:CIUDAD WILL MEASURE SUCCESS IN MEETING PROJECT OBJECTIVES OF THE ANTICIPATED PROJECT OUTPUTS AND OUTCOMES. (1) NUMBER OF OUTREACH CAMPAIGNS OR PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED. (2) TOTAL TONS OF MSW COLLECTED, RECYCLED, COMPOSTED, OR MANAGED VIA OTHER MANAGEMENT PATHWAYS AS A RESULT OF GRANT ACTIVITIES. (3) PERCENT CHANGE IN PARTICIPATION RATE OF THE COMPOSTING PROGRAM. (4) REDUCTION OF CONTAMINATION IN RECYCLING STREAM. (5) NUMBER OF COMMUNITIES REACHED THROUGH OUTREACH ACTIVITIES. (6) NUMBER OF TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT JOBS CREATED. THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPATING EDUCATORS AND THEIR AREAS OF SPECIALTY WILL BE DOCUMENTED AND SUCCESS WILL BE DETERMINED BY HOW MANY EDUCATORS ATTEND AT LEAST ONE PD WORKSHOP. SUCCESS WILL BE DETERMINED BY DEVELOPMENT OF THE FOOD WASTE AND COMPOSTING CURRICULUM, WITH ACTIVITIES SPECIFIC TO ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, AND HIGH SCHOOL LEARNING AND ENGAGEMENT LEVELS. CIUDAD SWCD AND PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS WILL BE DOCUMENTED AND SUCCESS WILL BE MEASURED BY INCREASING REACH EACH YEAR AND FOR EACH SUBSEQUENT VIDEO. OVERALL, PROJECT SUCCESS WILL BE DETERMINED BY DOCUMENTING THE NUMBER OF COMMUNITY COMPOSTING STATIONS ESTABLISHED, THE VOLUME OF FOOD WASTE RECEIVED AT EACH COMPOSTING STATION, AND THE NUMBER OF NEW SCHOOL GARDENS ESTABLISHED. THE INTENDED BENEFICIARIES WILL INCLUDE THE ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS AND STUDENTS AND WILL CONTINUE WITH THE PARENTS AND HIGHLIGHTED AND SHARED WITHIN THE ALBUQUERQUE COMMUNITY.
