Description

To promote and disseminate rigorous and nonpartisan research in environmental and energy economics (EEE) with direct policy relevance, through a partnership with the federal agencies - including US EPA's national center for environmental economics (ncee). This proposal requests one year of funding to contribute to the environmental and energy policy and the economy (eepe) initiative hosted by the national bureau of economic research (nber). There are four primary objectives of the environmental and energy policy and the economy (eepe) initiative. (1) to provide incentives for leading researchers to focus on policy-relevant research topics within environmental and energy economics (EEE) and to communicate their findings in impactful ways. (2) to maintain a regular forum where academic researchers can communicate directly with members of the professional staff and researchers at government agencies and ngos focused on energy and environmental policy. (3) to create lasting impact through continuation of an annual publication featuring EEE research that is directly related to current and ongoing policy debates. (4) to foster relationships with federal agency partners - including the usepa, ncee - to share research, promote collaborations, and set research agendas, including research in the areas of climate change and environmental justice.activities:the recipient will solicit, edit, and disseminate six papers that are especially policy relevant and that are accessible to a broad professional audience. Papers are selected through a combination of direct commissioning and selection among submissions to a general call for papers. Research is then disseminated though an annual conference in washington, DC, through the nber working paper series, and through a published annual volume. Invitations to the annual conference are disseminated widely through list serves and contacts to anyone with an interest in environmental and energy economics (EEE). The initiative spurs a significant body of new EEE research on topics that are attracting growing policy attention in light of rising concern about environmental and energy issues. The conference and publication are unique because of their focus on the nexus between applied EEE research and the policymaking community.subrecipient:no subawards are included in this assistance agreement.outcomes:the recipient will use the financial support to deliver 6 original research papers, a conference held at the national press club in washington, DC, planned for may 23, 2024, and an annual nber volume titled environmental and energy policy and the economy, published by the university of chicago press and made available in print and electronic forms. The papers included as part of the initiative in the past are ones that have already been citied in several EPA rule makings and have been widely cited and covered in the national press. While the annual conference already attracts a significant number of participants in the DC area and nationally, having a formal partnership with ncee will help expand the reach even more.
