Description

The goal of this project is to improve and utilize protex, an advanced computational model, to investigate the variations in blood chemical concentrations among individuals and any disparities among different sexes and racial/ethnic groups. The team will collect data from past nhanes - national health and nutrition examination survey - to predict interindividual variability in blood concentrations of chemical contaminants based on individual-specific diets, physiological factors, and anthropometrics across americans.activities:research aims: 1) upgrade the exposure and toxicokinetic model, protex, in order to calculate chemical blood concentrations with the ability to consider inter-individual variability in the GUT metabolism rate of chemicals; 2) develop databases of demographics, physiology, anthropometrics, and diet composition for nhanes participation, and 3) estimate the variations in blood concentration of three case-study phthalic acidic esters to examine disparities between sexes and races/ethnicities. Subrecipient:no subawards are included in this assistance agreement.outcomes:deliverables will include annual and final reports on their efforts to use the protex model to understand the variations of the blood concentrations of chemical contaminants among the U.S. Population and to predict such disparities between subgroups of the population. This project is important because IT will provide data to inform how specific chemicals impact different populations, thereby addressing chemical disparities to improve health, especially in disadvantaged and overburdened communities. Direct beneficiaries of this program include risk assessors, regulatory entities, water quality managers, chemical and pharmaceutical companies, human health and the environment and the general public.
