About this award

The Federal Railroad Administration awarded the New York Department of Transportation $13.76 million on October 1, 2025, under the Railroad Crossing Elimination program (CFDA 20.327) to complete final design and construction work that consolidates highway-rail at-grade crossings at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.

The recipient will eliminate three of seven existing at-grade crossings on the fairgrounds property. The four remaining crossings will be improved with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) compliant warning devices, signage, striping, pedestrian accommodations, highway geometry improvements, and traffic signal enhancements. Fencing will be installed on both sides of the tracks to restrict access except at protected grade crossings. These improvements are designed to enhance safety for the millions of annual fairgrounds visitors and improve traffic flow in the vicinity of the remaining crossings.

Performance runs through October 31, 2029. Work is performed in Syracuse, New York. Assistance Type is Project Grant. The award obligates $13.76 million.
