Township of belleville roadway safety action plan

Belleville Township received a $400,000 Project Grant award from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) under the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program (CFDA 20.939) on September 16, 2025. The grant funds the development of a Comprehensive Roadway Safety Action Plan for the Township of Belleville, New Jersey, with a completion deadline of January 16, 2029. This planning-phase grant supports the township's efforts to prevent traffic fatalities and serious injuries through comprehensive safety analysis, stakeholder engagement, and data-driven strategy development for all road users including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and motorists.

Under the SS4A program, the funded activities include planning, design, and development of safety initiatives that will establish a foundation for subsequent infrastructure improvements and behavioral safety strategies. The roadway safety action plan will serve as a strategic roadmap to guide the township's transportation safety investments and improvements. This award reflects the FHWA's commitment to supporting local governmental entities in addressing roadway safety challenges at the municipal level through competitive grant funding established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
