BUILDING EQUITABLE AND SAFE TRANSPORTATION (BEST) INITIATIVE: REIMAGINING PROJECT PRIORITIZATION IN CENTRAL OHIO The Federal Highway Administration awarded $1.4M to the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) on March 19, 2026, under the Prioritization Process Pilot Program (CFDA 20.262) to develop and implement a publicly accessible, transparent prioritization process for ranking and selecting transportation projects in Central Ohio. The resulting prioritization process will be suitable for inclusion in MORPC's short-range and long-range transportation planning documents and will serve the eleven-county region encompassing Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Knox, Licking, Logan, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway, and Union Counties. As a regional planning entity, MORPC will leverage this funding to establish evidence-based methodologies and transparent criteria that enable equitable distribution of transportation resources and improved project selection outcomes across the Central Ohio region. The project is scheduled for completion by March 31, 2028, and will result in deliverables that can inform transportation planning and decision-making processes for MORPC member communities and potentially serve as a replicable model for other regions undertaking similar prioritization initiatives.
