About this award

The Federal Highway Administration awarded the North Carolina Department of Transportation $852,300 on December 3, 2025, under the Emergency Relief (ER) Program (CFDA 20.271) to perform permanent repairs to bridges damaged by Hurricane Helene floodwaters on US 19 East in Yancey County.

The project comprises structural repairs to two bridges over the South Toe River—Bridge 990043 (Federal Structure 1990043) on the westbound lane and Bridge 990328 (Federal Structure 1990328) on the northbound lane—and roadway restoration of a section of US 19 East near the bridges. The roadway work will address damage to the roadbed, pavement, and bridge slopes west of the bridge structures. Work is being let under contract DM00490. Performance extends from the award date through October 1, 2034, with work performed in Yancey County, North Carolina. The ER Program provides Highway Trust Fund resources to supplement state resources for repair of Federal-aid highways damaged by natural disasters; North Carolina is responsible for retaining project records and documents per 2 CFR 200.333.
