The Federal Highway Administration awarded Coconino County $1,656,008.60 on September 25, 2025, for the US 89 Post-Wildfire Flood Resiliency Project under the Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) program (CFDA 20.284). The project addresses post-wildfire flood risk and resilience along US 89 in Arizona through infrastructure improvements designed to strengthen surface transportation against natural hazards and flooding. The work is performed in Arizona and runs through October 31, 2029. PROTECT provides competitive grants to fund planning activities, resilience improvements, community resilience and evacuation routes, and at-risk infrastructure addressing natural hazards including climate change, flooding, and extreme weather events.
